LA GRANDE CHATELAINE
AOP CÔTE DE BEAUNE
Certified organic and biodynamic
On the hillside of the Beaune mountain range, above the Premier Crus, lies the ancient Côtes de Beaune vineyard. This rare appellation covers an area of only 52 hectares, one of the smallest in Burgundy. Although their names are similar, the Côte de Beaune appellation should not be confused with that of Côtes de Beaune Villages (3,222 hectares). Indeed, the productions concerned are quite distinct: the former concerns only Beaune production, and the latter concerns 14 other villages along the coast.
100% Chardonnay
The soil is clay-limestone with pebbles on bedrock.
The place called "La Grande Châtelaine" takes its name from the distortion, over time, of the pronunciation of a medieval sharecropping contract: "le grand de cheptel." It consists of a low-growing vine, averaging 30 years old. The La Grande Châtelaine plot is located in the middle of the slopes of the Montagne de Beaune and overlooks the valley that connects Beaune to Bouze-les-Beaune.
The whole grapes are pressed and cold-set for approximately 24 hours. The clear must is fermented in oak barrels previously used for several wines to preserve its purity and minerality. The resulting wine is aged on lees for 12 months before bottling.
You can enjoy this wine with shellfish, grilled fish, game, and poultry. This wine also pairs very well with hard cheeses such as Comté or Mimolette.
